SHEET METAL STAIR RAILINGS

Custom sheet metal stair railings are crafted from individual steel plate components, welded together into a seamless, sculptural form. Rather than an add-on stair element, a sheet metal railing becomes an architectural feature in its own right — one that integrates naturally into the space while highlighting the character of the staircase.

Our steel stair railings are made from flat or rolled black steel plates approximately 10 mm thick. Once finished and painted, the surface resembles subtly folded paper — visually light, yet exceptionally strong and durable.

This bespoke railing solution is most often chosen for existing concrete staircases in private homes, offices, hotels, and restaurants, where the staircase is a prominent architectural feature within the interior.

All Work Is Carried Out On Site

What sets our custom metal railings apart is that the entire fabrication process takes place directly on site, on the existing concrete or steel staircase.

Assembly of the steel plate components, welding, grinding, priming, filling, and painting are all completed on location. Each railing is built in the exact space where it will remain, allowing it to adapt perfectly to the actual geometry of the staircase.

This on-site method creates a smooth, continuous surface without visible joints or transitions — a result that cannot be achieved by simply delivering and installing a prefabricated railing.

Where Sheet Metal Railings Can Be Installed

Although sheet metal railings appear visually light, they are heavy structural elements that require a solid base. For this reason, they are installed only on concrete or steel staircases.

Installation on Concrete Staircases

The railing is secured using side-mounted fixing brackets.

Installation on Steel Staircases

The railing components are fixed to the existing steel staircase structure and welded together into one continuous steel element.

Applications

Sheet metal stair railings suit straight, L-shaped, U-shaped, and spiral staircases in homes, mezzanines, offices, and other interior spaces — a flexible solution for architects and interior designers seeking a custom, non-standard result.

Our Process for Custom Steel Railings

  1. Site Measurement – We visit the site, measure the staircase, and discuss the most suitable railing solution.
  2. Design Drawings and Visualisations – We prepare technical drawings, including fixing details, and provide visualisations for your approval.
  3. Cutting and Rolling the Steel Plates – The railing components are manufactured according to the approved design and prepared for on-site installation.
  4. Installation of Fixings and Steel Plate Components – The fixing brackets and steel plate components are installed on site. Components are assembled and welded directly onto the staircase to form one seamless structure.
  5. On-Site Finishing – The railing is primed, filled, sanded, and painted on site, resulting in a perfectly smooth, seamless, and refined finish.

Warranty

We provide a 5-year warranty on all sheet metal stair railings — a reflection of our commitment to quality, backed by premium materials and carefully executed welding craftsmanship.

Recommended Construction Sequence

Because the railings are assembled, welded, and painted on site, we recommend scheduling this work before the final interior finishes.

Flooring installation and the final painting of walls and ceilings should ideally be completed after the railing has been finished. This helps preserve the quality of the interior, minimizes dust, reduces the need for protective coverings, and prevents accidental damage.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much do sheet metal stair railings cost?
The price depends on the staircase length, configuration, and installation complexity. We provide an accurate quote after an on-site survey or after reviewing your staircase drawings.

Do you measure the staircase yourselves?
Yes. We visit the site and take precise measurements to ensure the railing perfectly matches the actual staircase geometry.

Which colours are available?
We can paint the railing in any RAL or NCS colour. Since all finishing work is carried out on site, the final surface is smooth and completely seamless.

Can railings be installed on existing staircases?
Yes. We install sheet metal railings on both concrete and steel staircases.

When should railings be installed — before or after the interior finishes?
We recommend installing and finishing the railing before the final interior finishes. Flooring installation and the final painting of walls and ceilings should be scheduled after the railing has been painted.

What warranty do you provide?
All our sheet metal stair railings are covered by a 5-year warranty.

Already have a staircase design?
Send us your staircase drawings or photographs, and we’ll assess your project and provide a tailored proposal.

Featured Project: “The Lost Shtetl” Museum, Šeduva

This museum project called for a solution that standard railings simply couldn’t provide: a continuous steel structure precisely following the complex geometry of staircases spanning multiple floors, complete with double handrails designed for visitors of different heights and accessibility needs.

After carrying out precise on-site measurements, we designed a custom railing that accurately follows every turn, transition, and change in elevation throughout the staircase.

The entire fabrication process — assembly of the steel plate components, welding, grinding, priming, filling, and painting — was completed on site. This approach made it possible to align the double handrails perfectly, so they flow continuously throughout the entire stairwell.

For the final finish, the railings were painted in Signal White (RAL 9003), giving them a clean, monolithic appearance that complements the museum’s interior architecture.

The result is a seamless, sculptural steel railing that looks as though it was formed together with the building itself — a signature example of our bespoke, made-on-site approach to architectural metalwork.
